NASA is using Active Risk Manager from Strategic Thought For Exploration Systems Mission Directorate - Contract for $1.7 million awarded for enterprise risk management software.

Strategic Thought Group, the authors of Active Risk Manager, today announced a major new contract with NASA. The procurement was driven by the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate, although usage will be supported across the agency. Active Risk Manager will be used to support the implementation of the Integrated Collaborative Environment (ICE). The purpose of the ICE is to provide an environment for sharing, collaborating, integrating, accessing and controlling the management information and product data within the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD). This will go some way to ensure successful NASA endeavours for this and future generations.

In 2004 the US President directed NASA to embark on a space exploration program that would advance the nation's scientific, security and economic interests and the ESMD was formed. The vision for space exploration states that NASA will develop the innovative technologies, knowledge and infrastructures both to explore and to support decisions about the destinations for human exploration. To support this goal the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate has implemented the Integrated Collaborative Environment (ICE).

NASA's Office of Safety and Mission Assurance initially installed and supported Active Risk Manager, the web-based enterprise risk management system, at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi for its life-cycle risk management process. Active Risk Manager is used to track and monitor risks and for mitigation strategies. The implementation of a standard risk management system will make processes more efficient and effective in terms of both managing and reporting risk by removing the need for project by project/program by program risk tool development and training.
